Earthquakes, tsunamis, war, famine, and drought. It is a long list of woes and miseries. Could this be a warning to all that the time has come for us to repent and change our ways?
Imagine this. A woman in her 70s stricken by diabetes as shown by the discoloration in her bony ankle and possibly, other ailments for she was extremely skinny and looks sickly, gingerly walking and meeting passersby with open palm of her hands as if begging. She is ignored obviously.
Begging? Not really. She just forgot to place in her palm a couple of sweet polvoron she was selling. She really thought there were some which she was offering. Having realized that. She took a bundle and continued to walk and this time actually offering something to be bought by others. She was earning a living exposed to the elements. Obviously, she was forced to do so by circumstances.
Then came a male person, in his 20s, malnourished, with dirt and slime all over, sniffing rugby from a plastic bag. Thereafter he saw a thrown lighted cigarette which looks more like its burning filter tip already, along a dried and dirty canal, and which he took and proudly smoked it with head high like a rich man. Obviously, the substance and his dire condition have taken a toll on his sanity.
Two persons, different situations and both with no future to look forward to. But they something in common - the will to survive despite all the odds and difficulties. Most probably for them, living and surviving in the present is already an achievement.
Now. What about you? With access to the internet and certainly, having the luxury of time to spend browsing the world wide web. You, who have a future to look forward to. You, who have the means and the sanity to prosper. Yes, you?
Are you the person who gives up easily? Who doesn't know that there is a positive value know as resiliency? Who thinks that there is no longer any hopein this life? Who doesn't even know how to pray?
And for those who knows how to face life and call on God, what have you done to make this world a better place for all?
