Visita Iglesia is a religious devotion and not a mere tradition or practice. We recall Christ's agony in the Garden of Gethsemane where He was left all alone praying and sweating with blood. Hence, when we observe Lent, people will flock to at least seven churches (as in Rome's 7 Pilgrim Churches but others would visit fourteen to represent the Via Crusis) where the Blessed Sacrament is regally enthroned and as we pray, individually or better yet, as a family, we accompany Our Lord Jesus in His moments of agony. We thanked Him for the sacrifices He has done to save us, to redeem us. It is a time to be with Christ, a time to reflect, a time for renewal.
